Kajol Devgan

Kajol

Kajol Devgan, born August 5, 1975 in Mumbai, is popularly known as Kajol, and is a bollywood actress.

Kajol made her acting debut in the film Bekhudi(1992) and had her first hit with her second film Baazigar (1993) along with Shahrukh Khan, with whom she later went to deliver some of the biggest
Bollywood hits like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Her performances in both the films were praised and earned her two Filmfare Best Actress Awards. After the successful Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham released in 2001, she took a sabbatical from full time acting for five years. She made a successful comeback with Kunal Kohli's Fanaa (2006), for which she received her fourth Best
Actress award
at the Filmfare ceremony. She has been part of many critically and commercially successful films, and is highly regarded as one of India's most successful actresses

Touted as one of the best actresses in Bollywood of all time, Kajol, who is of Bengali-Marathi descent, in fact belongs to a family tree with a long respectable history in the Indian cinema. Her mother Tanuja is a renowned actress, whilst her late father Shomu Mukherjee was a film producer. Her late maternal aunt, Nutan is the record holder for the most (five times) Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.

Late maternal grandmother Shobhna Samarth and great grandmother Rattan Bai had both been influential figures in the early stages of Hindi cinema.

Her paternal uncles are film producers; Joy Mukherjee and Deb MukherjeeKajol's paternal grandfather, Sashadhar Mukherjee, was a filmmaker. His wife Satirani Devi, Kajol's paternal grandmother, was the sister of three famous film personalities, Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar and Kishore Kumar. Kajol's cousins Rani Mukerji, Sharbani Mukherjee and Mohnish Behl are also Bollywood actors. Kajol's younger
sister Tanisha Mukherjee has recently started a film career.

Kajol married Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan on February 24, 1999. On April 20, 2003, she gave birth to a daughter named Nysa, which means Goddess of purity.

On April 10, 2008, Kajol's father passed away after suffering from a cardiac arrest. His funeral was held the same day and was attended by other Bollywood personalities.

Kajol left her school St. Joseph’s convent at Panchgani and started her career at the age of seventeen. Although her debut film, Bekhudi (1992) was not a great success at the box office, her performance was noticed and she went on to work with big production houses in India.

In 1993, she shot to fame with her second film, Baazigar. The film was her first major hit, and her pairing with Shahrukh Khan proved to be appreciated. She later went on to make a popular pairing with him in a number of films, all of which were box office successes.

Her first release in 1994, Udhaar Ki Zindagi, was a box-office failure. Despite that, her performance in the film was much appreciated by critics, and she won the BFJA Best Actress Award for this film. She next starred in her first Yash Raj Film, the romantic drama Yeh Dillagi, co-starring opposite Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. The film was a box office success and her performance as Sapna, a strong dreamy girl who leaves her paternal home to make her own life in the big city, earned Kajol her first nomination for Best Actress award at the Filmfare.

1995 proved to be a very good year for Kajol. She went on to star in two of the year's biggest hits. Her first release was Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun. The film, which dealt with reincarnation, became the second biggest hit of the year. While three of her next releases that year failed at the box office, her last release, Aditya Chopra's directorial debut, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, was not only the biggest hit of that year, but one of the biggest hits of Hindi cinema ever. The film has entered its twelfth year in Mumbai theaters,
grossing over 12 billion rupees overall, making it one of the biggest film blockbusters in Bollywood. Kajol's performance in the film was praised, and she received her first Filmfare Best Actress Award

Kajol & Ajay Devgan

Kajol had only one release in 1996, Bambai Ka Babu, opposite Saif Ali Khan, which was a box office failure.

In 1997, Kajol starred in Gupt: The Hidden Truth. Co-starring actors My Name is KhanBobby Deol and Manisha Koirala, the film was one of the highest grossing films of that year. Apart from that, her performance was a significant development for female actors in Bollywood; she was the first female actor to win the Filmfare Best Villain Award. She next starred in Hamesha. Like Karan Arjun, the film dealt with the topic of reincarnation. However, unlike the latter, it was a box office failure. She next starred in her first Tamil film, Minsaara Kanavu. The film was a major critical success and Kajol won her first Best Actress award at the Filmfare Awards South ceremony. Her last release that year was the romantic-comedy Ishq, where she was paired with her then future husband, Ajay Devgan, which did well at the box office.

Kajol had further success in 1998, as she starred in three of the year's biggest hits. She first starred opposite Salman Khan in the comedy Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. The film was the fourth highest grossing film of the year. Her next release, Dushman alongside Sanjay Dutt, did moderately well at the box office. She had a double role in the film, and won her first Star Screen Award for Best Actress for her performance. She next starred opposite Ajay Devgan in the romance
Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, which was the second biggest hit of that year. However, her biggest success that year came with her last release,
Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which went on to become the biggest hit of the year in both India and overseas. Additionally, she won her second Filmfare Best Actress Award for her
performance.

Kajol's first release in 1999 was the drama film Dil Kya Kare. She played the supporting role of Nandita Rai, which was well received. She had a hit with her second release, the family drama Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain. Starring alongside Anil Kapoor, Kajol received another Best Actress nomination at the Filmfare.

Kajol had only two films released in 2001. She first played a double role in the drama Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, which was a commercial failure. However, she reinvented her success in her second venture with Karan Johar, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which was one of the biggest hits of the year, and for which she won several Best Actress awards, including her third Filmfare Best Actress Award and her second
Star Screen Award for Best Actress
. Critic Taran Adarsh, wrote of her performance in the film, "Kajol is first-rate in the role of a typical Chandni Chowk lass. Her Punjabi dialect will win her immense praise. The sequence when she seeks Amitabh's aashirwad, without him knowing about it, is terrific." Following the success of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kajol took a sabbatical from full time acting for five years. She gave birth to her daughter Nysa in 2003.

She made a successful comeback in 2006 with Kunal Kohli's drama Fanaa, one of the highest grossing films of the year. Portraying a blind Kashmiri girl who falls in love with a Kashmiri terrorist (played by Aamir Khan) in the film, she won her fourth Filmfare Best Actress Award, which placed her at par with two famous Bollywood actresses, Meena Kumari and Madhuri Dixit, each of whom holds 4 Best Actress awards from Filmfare. (Kajol's late aunt, Nutan currently holds the record for five such awards.)

Kajol's latest release, U, Me aur Hum, which released on April 11, 2008, marked her husband Ajay Devgan's directorial debut.

Kajol is currently working on Karan Johar's new movie My Name is Khan, which is based on a true story, against the backdrop of perceptions on Islam post September 11. Filming commenced in December 2008 in Los Angeles and is scheduled for release in November 2009.

Visual Studio 2010

Just as the dust was settling on Visual Studio 2008 the new Visual Studio 2010 is already in a good phase of development(atleast that's what the screen shot says). Visual Studio 2010 has a completely new UI that Microsoft claims is more than just a face lift - it has more punch under the hood.

Click to Enlarge the Screenshot of Visual Studio 2010

Visual Studio 2010 has been re-designed with features such as a reorganized layout with file menus and commands on a “shelf” at the top of the IDE. As you can clearly see fom the screenshot, Microsoft has now begun to use Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) for the evolution of toolbars and menu bars.

Visual Studio 2010 will also feature a new UI with which developers will be able to enjoy additional real estate space because of multi-monitor support and can also simply drag source code windows to a secondary monitor. Rather cool I must say!!

SQL Server :: Why does sp_help and Design View column length have variations in results?

Well, the question of Why does sp_help and Design View column length have variations in results? has been a Million Dollar question for my SQL geek friend in office. She was confronted with this issue where the column length appears differently when sp_help is used and the correct column length is visible in design view.

Being a SQL geek herself, she usually only uses command line commands (like sp_help) to get the information she needs - but this was a very hard nut for her to crack. Well, she did crack it last evening and here's the detailed explanation on why the variations appear. Hope this information is useful for others who are struck with a similar investigation.

When we use sp_help to check the properties of the table, the length of every column which is of Unicode data type (Nchar, Nvarchar, etc.) is doubled than the original column width which can be seen in design view.

For eg. If we have a column whose data type is Nvarchar(25). When we use sp_help for this table, the column length appears 50. But when we open the table in design view it shows 25.

This is because Unicode data type takes 2 bytes for storing data. And sp_help uses int to display the length of the column.

Hope that added some gyan to you too.

How to easily install Adobe Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 Update on an existing Photoshop CS4 Installation

Adobe has recently released a new update called 11.0.1 for it's Photoshop CS4 - the most powerful photo editing software currently available. Photoshop CS4 is used by professionals around the world on both Mac and PC environments. But the Version 11.0.1 update has been giving many users a lot of issues in installing the update.

I have given a list of easy steps to install the Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 Update on your system without any issues. Follow the easy steps of installation below:

P.S: You can download the update 11.0.1 here.
  • First of all, Disable all the anti-virus softwares in your system.
  • Next, you will have to ensure that the folder on your hard drive which contains Photoshop is aptly named "Adobe Photoshop CS4".
  • Now go ahead and double-click the "Adobe Photoshop Updater" application.
  • Here's the challenge - If now, the updater throws a message saying that it cannot find the application to update. You have NO choice but to uninstall Photoshop CS4 and then reinstall Photoshop CS4 from scratch before trying to update again. (Note that the default folder is named as "Adobe Photoshop CS4"). On a Mac, to uninstall Photoshop, you'll have to navigate to the "Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers" folder and run "Add or Remove Adobe Photoshop CS4" to remove the original installation of Photoshop. Once the removal is complete, reinstall Photoshop, and then try your luck again with the updater.
  • Your almost done now - Just follow all the instructions on the screen.
  • Finally to confirm that the updater has run successfully, launch Photoshop CS4 and verify that the version number on the splash screen shows 11.0.1 and not 11.0!!!
Well, according to Adobe development team - Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 will only work the retail version of Photoshop CS4 and not any pre-release (including the beta) versions.

Did you know? Gmail went Down and is Up again

Yes, Gmail went down for quite sometime yesterday. At most times it became totally inaccessible and at many times - one wasn't able to open the mails. GTalk integrated into Gmail didn't work for quite a lot of time yesterday. It was all very new in the world of Google for such a unprecedented outage and there were many of my friends who pinged / called to just clarify if it was really true that GMail has gone down - well the irony was YES!!

This incident has been confirmed by a post on the GMail Official Blog today and they have attributed the outage to some European Data Centers going down for regular maintenance and some new code in Gmail that kept sending requests to the Data Centers in the same region rather than load sharing. Google confirms that the issue has been identified and also fixed.

It may be recalled that only last month, a human error had forced Google to believe every site on the Internet was malware!!. Google search created flutters and a whole lot of online confusion when a glitch in its security programme temporarily warned users that websites from all search results were potentially harmful. All websites turned up in search results were marked as harmful and users received the message: "Warning! This site may harm your computer.", finally Google fixed it and attributed the error to a third party.

But yesterday's incident did bring gitters into many people thinking of the vast amount of persoanal e-mails and data stacked off in the Gmail accounts. As for me, I already am using 4947 MB (close to 5 GB) or 67% of the Gmail storage limit.

THE THUNDER BOYS - Can't stop drinkin'

SINGLES THE THUNDER BOYS Can't stop drinkin' ('bout you) / Shake , shake sp 2007 wav
The Thunder Boys : Z. James : vocals, guitar / D. Ade : bass / AT : vocals, guitar / Victor : drums .
Based in Ventura, CA, The Thunder Boys, who formed in 2005, are one of the most-talked about new bands on Myspace.com. Fresh out of high school, the quartet pulls from the best rock n' roll influences around, including The New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders' Heartbreakers, The Joneses , Rolling Stones, Hanoi Rocks.... well, you get the picture! Having just inked a deal with Gearhead Records, the band's debut 7" single came out in March 2007 in a limited edition (550) hand-screened sleeve, hand-numbered 7" on pink vinyl (here) .
A lp was expected but the band broke up ... a pity !

WILLIE ALEXANDER & THE BOOM BOOM BAND

WILLIE ALEXANDER & THE BOOM BOOM BAND Willie Alexander & The Boom Boom Band Lp 1978 320 kbps
You 've lost that lovin' feelin' / Rock 'n' roll '78 / Everybody knows / Look at me / Radio heart / You beat me to it / Hair / Looking like a bimbo / Home is / Kerouac .
Produced by Graig Leon.
W. Alexander & The Boom Boom Band : W. Alexander : vocals, keyboards & percussion / S. Grossman : Fender bass / B. Loosigian : electric & accoustic guitars / D. McLean : drums & percussion .

Although relatively unknown outside Boston, Willie "Loco" Alexander is familiar to rock trivia experts as the answer to the brain-teaser: Who took Lou Reed's place in the Velvet Underground? He was born in Philadelphia in 1943, but emigrated to Boston in the '60s, where he formed the folk duo Baba & Willie Loco. Alexander founded the Lost in 1964, one of Boston's most popular garage bands of the period, and recorded for Capitol during the mid-'60s. By 1967, he was playing in Glass Menagerie with Doug Yule (who joined the Velvets one year later, replacing John Cale); in 1970, Alexander was invited to join one of the most influential bands of the '60s after its leader departed. He played keyboards and sang until Yule and the rest of the skeleton crew called it quits in 1972, after the album "Squeeze".
Willie Alexander recorded three solo singles beginning in 1975, and formed the punk-oriented Boom Boom Band the following year. The group recorded two albums for MCA, but broke up in 1978."Willie Alexander and the Boom Boom Band" is dedicated to Jack Kerouac, and includes Alexander's tributary song about the author. "Kerouac" is a heartfelt standout & was a cult hit when it first appeared on a 1975 independent single. The second album "Meanwhile ... back in the States" also produced by Graig Leon is one of the best lp of the year 1978 !
Then Willie released "Solo Loco" in 1982, and then formed the Confessions, who also recorded two albums, "A Girl Like You" and "Autre Chose". Continuing along his odd Boston-and-Paris path, Alexander recorded a spare album that excludes guitar and rock in favor of keyboards for a bluesy, late-night sound (" Tap Dancing on My Piano") . "The Dragons Are Still Out" finds W. Alexander back to rocking with a full-strength rock trio, horns, co-producer/co-writer Erik Lindgren on keyboards and even a cellist
Willie Alexander continued in his solo status throughout the '80s, but formed the Persistence of Memory Orchestra in 1991. Several best-of compilations are available, detailing his solo and group work.
In 2005 , the 1978 line-up recorded "Dog Bar Yacht Club" with a similar cover picture ... twenty seven years older !
In light of Willie Alexander's discographical complexity, "Willie Loco Boom Boom Ga Ga 1975-1991" is better than one-stop shopping, it's the only opportunity for a newcomer to glean a sensible career summary without spending years searching out now-rare import vinyl. The sloppy, spirited festival of bands, unpretentious sounds and songs (22 in all) is neatly annotated by the star. (Sample: "I wrote this ['Kerouac'] in my bathtub in two minutes after thinking about Jack for 20 years.")
But Willie is also one hell of a spoken-word artist, a talent he's also explored on record. Private WA, a collection of studio recitations and diary entries with ambient keyboard accompaniment recorded between 1984 and 1990, makes the personal compelling and sharp-focuses the universal. A bit heavy on the Burroughsian delivery at times (once a would-be Beat, always a would-be Beat), but consistently revealing and engaging.
You can find , on the excellent Rich Coffee site Rich's R'n'R Rants & Raves , a complete review, song by song , of the first "Willie Alexander & The Boom Boom Band" lp ! Allmusic/Trouser Press
And you can buy Willie Alexander music here.

WE JUST PUT THE FUCK IN ROCK 'N' FUCKING ROLL !
Putting out a collection of the "sleaziest" bands on the planet is a tall order, indeed. But since the rock scribe extraordinaire known as Sleazegrinder has his own self-named record label--he's attempting to do just that, with this new collection of tunes called "Cock'n'Roll". But does he succeed? The CD packaging looks like it was designed by Larry Flynt (and who the hell doesn't love Larry?) which might lead you to expect unbridled lyrical smuttiness--with the music as a second thought. But what you actually get when ya the slap the CD into the player is just some good, old-fashioned, slammin', no-bullshit rock'n'roll from a myriad of cool bands including Lanternjack, Sugabomb, Rock City Crimewave, Muscle Car, Skum, Porn Rock--and the band with one of the best names ever: the Dog Shit Boys.
At the same time, some of these groups do "work blue" and topics tackled include strip joints, pornstars, sluts, fucking, etc. Personal faves include Sugabomb's "Speed Thrill" Porn Rock's "Porn Star," and the opening track "Pretty Hex" by Lanternjack. Other bands included on the CD are the Trashcan Darlings, Queer For Girls, The Beatings, Queen Bee and more. All in all, with "Cock'n'Roll" you get searing, balls-out rock'n'roll without the corporate sanitizing. Looking forward to the sequel. C. Parcellin
