TIM SCOTT - The High Lonesome Sound

TIM SCOTT The High Lonesome Sound lp 1987 320 kbps
Sound of Thunder / I Could Be Anything / The Great Escape / Easy Time / Release / Low Ride / Fire Down / In This World / High Hopes / Under a New Heaven / Hey Sister.
Produced by M. Froom.
T. Scott: vocals, guitar & harmonica /J. Scheff: bass / M. Curry: drums / M. Froom: keyboards + guests.
Tim Scott is an artist who has been around since the early 1980’s. He has used his full name, Tim Scott-McConnell, as well as just Tim Scott, and now, well... that's another story...
Whatever he’s called, Tim is a serious, professional artist with a bottomless pit of great songs (all of which he currently owns), a storied history, and at all times, a clear vision of what he’s doing.
He has held several major label record and publishing contracts and with each, enjoyed respectable successes along the way. He was signed to Island Records by Chris Blackwell after he saw Tim perform at CBGB in The Rockats, the original rockabilly punk band. He was later signed to Sire Records by label co-founders Seymour Stein & Richard Gottherer , who realized Tim’s value as both an artist and a songwriter. In 1983, Tim penned a song called “Swear” and Sire released an album featuring the song, produced by Gottherer. But Tim wasn’t happy with the direction Sire was pointing him in and so he "got out of his contract"...
Tim was soon picked up by Geffen, who matched him with producer Mitchell Froom and together they recorded an album, "The High Lonesome Sound" in 1987. But his A&R guy left the company before the album was released and that was the end of that.

So he put together a new band and in 1990, The Havalinas were signed by Elektra Records, issued one self-titled album, and proceeded to tour the world for over a year, opening for name acts such as Bob Dylan (who personally asked for them). One of The Havalinas’ songs that Tim wrote, “High Hopes”, caught the ear of Bruce Springsteen and he ended up covering it for his 1996 video and audio release, “Blood Brothers”.
By then, Tim had moved to Norway (of all places), where he spent the better part of 14 years raising a family while writing for and doing several records of his own with a few different companies such as WEA and MCA/Universal Music. He continued touring throughout.
In early 2008, he returned to the US, hired his old friend and co-conspiritor, Dan Nash's Just Great Management, pissed off a really big lawyer, and began doing whatever it takes to get back on the map. Source

BIJOU - Betty Jane Rose

SINGLES: BIJOU Betty Jane Rose / Tout va très bien sp 1978 wav
Produced par J. W. Thoury.
Bijou : P. Dauga : bass & vocals / V. Palmer : guitar & vocals / D. Yan : drums & vocals.

Bindu

Bindu born on January 17, 1951 is a Bollywood actress who gave popular performances during 1970's, 80's and 90's.

She first landed in Bollywood with a role in "Anpadh" starring Dharamendra and Mala Sinha directed by Raj Khosla. In the movie, she played a young graduate though in real life, she was only 11 years old.

She climed the ladders of success with the movie "Kati Patang" directed by Shakti Samanta where she appeared in the song "Mera Naam Shabnam" as a Cabaret Dancer. The song is still popular with the audiences. Bindu from then on, mostly took negative roles and became popular as a Vamp along with Helen and Aruna Irani.

Bindu had everything that a sex symbol in Bollywood should possess. She was beautiful, fair skinned and carried herself with good poise. However despite having everything she could not bag lead roles in the films.

After Kati Patang, came her roles in movies like Ittefaq in the year 1969 and Imtihaan in 1974 where she played a seductress. The movie Hawas(1974) where she played a nymphomaniac left the audience in awe of her. Bindu proved that an actress can have a tag of being a sex symbol despite her marital status.

But being sexy was not the only thing that she could do. Her roles in "Arjun Pandit" and "Abhimaan"(1973) showed the industry she can act too. In the movie "Chaitali",she was as convincing as the lead character of a crippled woman Chaitali.

NURSERY CRIMES - Fun Hurts !

NURSERY CRIMES Fun Hurts! cd 1992 Survival Records 320 kbps
Who's Sorry Now? / Build It Up / Yardstick For Lunatics / I Can Feel You / Marked By Time / Sad / Eleanor Rigby / Godfrey Carson / Next Time /Around / Pary Girl / Singing Songs.
Produced by Nursery Crimes & K. Dahlstrom.
Nursery Crimes : P. Rose: vocals / D. Dixon: guitars & vocals / R. Hopkinson: drums & percussion / J. Masson: guitar & piano / D. Thomas: bass & vocals.
"Hardcore punk in Melbourne 1989 was a gigantic explosion of bands and culture, and yet music promoters, mainstream radio and labels had no intention of accepting the style; thousands of Mohawk sprouting, torn denim wearing kids lived outside of society. There was no mainstream crossover, no TV or commercial radio exposure. It is incredible that such an enormous crowd pulling music scene was divorced from the mainstream, given that today there are even Pepsi and Nike commercials with punk-ish sounds blasting out. ‘Punk’ (whatever that word means today) has TV and radio saturation, charts well and makes millionaires out of many acts that would have no trouble calling themselves ‘punk’ or ‘hardcore’. Nursery Crimes sprang from the ashes of Slush Puppies and added melody to the heaviness, the metal chunk and the incredible speed of the music. D. Dixon, a skater and guitar thrasher from the 'burbs, joined P.Rose and they quickly recruited R. Hopkinson into the band, a man who had pounded the skins in both Vicious Circle and punk-metal outfit Cremator. R. Hopkinson was a famed and respected drummer and his reputation, along with that of the Slush Puppies and the general emergence of pop punk made sure that Nursery Crimes were noticed immediately in late 1989. C. Knight, a guitarist from Vicious Circle, joined soon after and added a buzzsaw New York Dolls guitar wall that complimented Dixon’s thrash style that owed more to the Dead Kennedy’s and even The Ramones. P. Chong was hastily brought in on bass and the band scored an unbelievable first gig with grungey U.S band of the moment Dinosaur Jr. Au-go-go signed the band and their first single "All Torn Up Inside/What Do You Know (Anyway)" was released, hitting number one on the ‘independent’ charts in Sydney and Melbourne. In 1990, H. Rollins chose the Crimes as the main support for his oz tour, and gigs with Faith No More, L7, Fugazi and their heroes All ran the band ragged throughout the year, coinciding with the band’s first LP and international release "No Time For That Crime". By the end of 1990, Nursery Crimes had headlined several times in all capital cities and had played the very first all-age shows in Croydon and at the Corner hotel in Richmond. This is when the All-Age scene began, and Nursery Crimes, alongside The Hard Ons, Cosmic Psychos, The Meanies and a handful of other bands were at the forefront of this incredible new way for under age kids to see live bands, which is today established in festivals. In 1991, D. Thomas replaced P. Chong on bass and added souped up twanging funk sound to the mix and J. Masson replaced Caine, with the interplay between the newbie’s metal chunk and Dixon’s loose thrash even more pronounced. Their sound had evolved into a more skilled and versatile one. Despite a difference in the live sound and the comparatively tame noises on "Fun Hurts", it sold thousands of copies in Europe through the bands new deal with Survival and it hit number one on the indie charts in Australia. Nursery Crimes rarely spent a moment in one place during both 1992 and 1993, touring the country in their rusty tip top bread van and landing supports with internationals Fishbone, Hoodoo Gurus, L7, Mudhoney and Fugazi. R. Hopkinson departed the band in early 1993, as did J. Masson, and their shoes were suitably filled by J. MCinnes on guitar and C. Latham on drums. In an effort to get a sound on CD representative of their live chaos the band enlisted L. Gravina to record and produce their third and final LP "Something’s Wrong With Our Heroes", released through MDS, and promoted via a gruelling 40 day Australian tour with The Fireballs. After the forty gig grind of the Fireballs tour, Nursery Crimes immediately went back on the road supporting Hoodoo Gurus on an Australia wide jaunt. It had now been four years of constant touring, and disputes with former label Survival, the exhaustive schedule and a feeling of displacement set in. In late 1993 they decided to disband and went out with a hastily organised farewell show at the Prince Of Wales.
Nursery Crimes were reformed for a couple of exclusive shows in October 2006. Currently there are no shows on the horizon, but in 2010 there may be a whole stack announced as this is their 20th year anniversary." Source

Asus SaberTooth 55i motherboard - A complete Review

ASUS has long been the leader in providing innovative motherboard solutions. Once again it has taken the lead by launching today the first "TUF" (The Ultimate Force) Series of motherboard called the SABERTOOTH 55i. As the name suggests the TUF Series has been specially developed for the heavy computing of geeks and also perform very well under extreme conditions (read - over-clocking).

Geeks have always had a desire for high-quality motherboard components and also the need for very stable computing platforms, and this seems to have achieved uncompromising stability with the new TUF Series motherboards.
Asus has claimed that the SaberTooth 55i motherboards have even passed the most demanding military-style testing and yet even in the harshest operating conditions they have been able to deliver robust performance.

The SaberTooth 55i motherboard is designed around what is known as a "Marine Cool" concept which incorporates the Intel® P55 chipset and also the all new "tough" features to give users a supremely solid and stable computing platform.
SaberTooth 55i motherboard employs What is known as the unique CeraM!X microfin coating and also military level tested capacitors and VRM MOSFETs to give users increased operational stability.

More about the unique Ultimate Heatsink Cooling system with CeraM!X Microfin Coating
SaberTooth 55i motherboard comes with the new CeraM!X heatsink which easily delivers exceptional cooling to active components and also gives uncompromising system stability even under intense operating conditions. SaberTooth 55i motherboard's advanced ceramics-based composition is something that is commonly used in the aerospace industry for heat insulation. This new heatsink dissipates heat rapidly to achieve ultimate cooling. Ceramics have replaced the traditional anti-oxidant compounds to create a microfin surface texture for enhanced cooling. This rough surface offers an expanded area for heat induction into the surrounding air. As a result, more heat is rapidly conducted away from the active system-allowing users to enjoy previously unattainable levels of stability.

Direct Memory Cooling with Affordable CoolMem! Fan Frame SaberTooth 55i motherboard realises the need for an optimal memory operation - which squarely relies on good cooling. SaberTooth 55i motherboardhas the CoolMem! Fan Frame that can easily enclose most standard 40mm or 50mm computer fans and also fits them directly over the memory module. So you can gain an affordable cooling solution that significantly stabilizes memory operation.

Resilient Performance from Military-certified Capacitors and MOSFETs
SaberTooth 55i motherboard ensures users to experience uncompromising performance by incorporating only high-grade, rigorously-tested components. These perform robustly even under the most demanding conditions. Take for example, all its capacitors have undergone thermal shock tests to ensure continuous, stable operations during rapid temperature changes in the 60°C range. In fact, all its capacitors and VRM MOSFETs have been certified for military-level use through stringent testing.

Optimized Power Use with E.S.P.
SaberTooth 55i motherboard delivers E.S.P. (Efficient Switching Power) to all major components for superb system efficiency. Besides delivering efficient power to the CPU and memory, the power design also applies the same level of efficient power to the PCIex16 expansion slots and IC. This improves overall power efficiency and reduces the amount of heat generated-resulting in cooler and more reliable operations. Additionally, the E.S.P. converts power at 90% efficiency compared to a conventional linear design that is only about 60% efficient. Built for robust performance, the SABERTOOTH 55i-and ASUS TUF Series motherboards as a whole-incorporates the latest breakthroughs in heatsink composition and high-grade, military-tested components to enable users to build their DIY systems around one of the most solid and stable motherboards ever created.

Venus of the Screen-Madhu Bala

Mumtaz Begum Jehan Dehlavi famously known as Madhubala was born on 14 February 1933 was an extremely popular Bollywood actress who made a mark in the industry which no other actress has managed to achieve so far.
Even with contemporaries like Nargis and Meena Kumari, she was regarded as the most talented and powerful actress that Hindi Cinema had ever seen.

Madhubala was born into a conservative Pathan family in New Delhi. When Madhubala's father lost his job at the Imperial Tobacco Company in Peshawar and she lost her four sisters and two brothers, life came to a standstill for her and her family moved to Mumbai in search of a better life. They frequented Mumbai's film studios in search of Work. After a lot of struggle, Mumtaz was made to enter the film industry at the age of nine.

first film of her Bollywood career, title Basant released in the year 1942 was a huge hit. In the movie, she played the daughter of actress Mumtaz Shanti. She continued playing a child artist in several other films. Her performance was noticed by celebrated actress of her times, Devika Rani who suggested her to change her name to Madhubala. Her performance and professionalism soon earned her fame and reputation in Bollywood. By the time she reached adolescence, she was chosen for lead roles due to her unmatched beauty and good looks.

Madhubala got her first big break in the movie Neelkamal released in the year 1947, directed by Kidar Sharma who cast her opposite Raj Kapoor. Until then she was always called out to as Mumtaz but this movie gave her the recognition of Madhubala. Though the movie did not do well at the box office, her performance was recognized.

She was known as the "Venus of the Screen" by the film media and her fans. However it was her role in Bombay Talkies production, Mahal(1949) that made her a household name. Audiences drooled over her presence on the screen and wanted to see more of her. She was only sixteen at the time when critics acknowledged her subtle and dexterous performance overshadowed veteran actor Ashok Kumar. The film went on to become a huge hit and the song "Ayega Anewala " gave the industry two new superstars- Madhubala and Lata Mangeshkar.

Madhubala gave many successful films following the movie Mahal. She acted in as much as twenty four films to secure the financial position of her family which greatly compromised her credibility as a actress.

During 1950's she proved herself as a versatile performer by appearing in movies like Badal(1959), Sangdil(1952), Gurudatt' sattirical movie .She faced a down swing in her career in the mid 50's but got back on her feet again with the movie Howrah Bridge where she played an unconventional role of a cabret singer ensnared in the underworld of China town in Calcutta (now kolkata). She made a big impact with her attire in the movie. She wore deep cut blouses, fitted pants that were a taboo during the time. the song "Aiyee Meherbaan" sung by Asha Bhosle became such a hit that it is on everybody's lips till date.

the most coveted role of her career, however was, Mughl-e-Azam where she played the role of Anarkali who faced capital punishment for the offence done by falling in love with the Emperor (Akbar's) son Salim. The film became an iconic one and no other film made after that could break its record of the biggest grossing film of Hindi Cinema until Sholay was released.

Madhubala had over 70 films to her credit.

LES PLAYBOYS - Je revendique

SINGLES: LES PLAYBOYS Je revendique /Pourvu que ça soule /Ca l'exaspère /Lisa EP 2004 wav
Les Playboys: F. Albertini: vocals /M. Nègre: guitar / M. Galliani: guitar /F. Durban: bass /G. Guizol: drums.
They have been friends for more than 30 years and have always been associated with French pop rock.We find them again in the mid seventies as initiators of the punk movement in France called "The Dentist", then in 1979 they were at the origin of the sixties garage revival, like their American friends "The Fleshtones". Henceforward immortalized by the Rock Dictionary which consecrates them a full page, they are regarded as "one of the best of this kind". Today after 5 LPs and 4 EPs which alternate covers (from British Beat to American garage, surf...)and their own French composing in Ronnie Bird or Dutronc spirit (their name is refering to), they remain above all an energic scenic band whose sound is always incredibly faithfull to the sixties. They have played in many mods rallies during the last years. Source

How to easily convert .ppsx file to .pptx or .ppt?

Well, a .ppsx file is a Power Point Show file created in Microsoft Office 2007 or later. Today at office I received one such file and double clicking it launches the Powerpoint Viewer and Not on PowerPoint. This maybe needed if you want to edit a few slides or copy some information from the slides.

I searched online for quite sometime with no luck. For the earlier .pps files, they can be easily converted to .ppt file by merely renaming the file extension to .ppt from .pps. But this technique doesnot work with the new versions - so a mere renaming of a .ppsx file to .pptx throws up an error when you try to open the file.

Then an idea struck me and it worked beautifully.
  • Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Click on the Ribbon and Open.
  • Now select and open the .ppsx file.
Viola - you have now opened the .ppsx file in edit mode and can now save it in either .pptx or .ppt formats too within Microsoft PowerPoint.

Like it or not iPhone currently commands 50% of WorldWide smartphone web traffic

AdMob Which reports on web requests on more than 15,000 web sites and applications world wide has some very stunning news in it's October release. Apple's iPhone is the most popular Smartphone OS in the world and it sweeps a whooping 50% of all mobile web traffic. Symbian OS has a 25% share which is very closely followed by a very new entrant - Google. Yes, the Google's Android OS seems to direct in 11% of the mobile web traffic out of Smartphones and that's really very impressive.

So, where's WinMo you may ask? Well, it currently has only a mere 3% of the SmartPhone Web Traffic. Do note that this not all the mobile web traffic we are talking about but only specific to SmartPhones. Let's put it this way - there aren't so many WinMo SmartPhones that have taken up well with the users. On the other hand, iPhone has entered several markets WorlWide and has consolidated a very nice marketshare in the very competitive SmartPhone market. The iPhone has been available atleast in the US for almost 2.5 years now - but taking 50% of the Worldwide traffic of smartphones is very impressive.

Some very interesting news related to Android again is that the newly launched Motorola Droid which runs only on Verizon in US currently has already managed to capture 24% of all Android traffic in US in the last few weeks!!.

The upcoming holiday season is surely going to tilt in favor of the new slew of Android phones and also more folks picking up the impressive iPhone 3GS. Stay tuned for more updates in this space.

Winner of the HP PhotoSmart Printer Giveaway

Well, folks - it wasn't that easy to choose a winner. There were 340 correct / qualifying entries to the contest. That was a bit too less than what I expected it to be, anyways - looks like the word didn't spread around much. So, how do you pick 1 winner from 340? There were many folks who had consistently answered on all 7 days - many correct, some wrong.

I just got an idea this morning to be completely neutral and use a Random Number Generator. And this was the lucky number which won it.

So, at position 112 we have.....

Anuradha from Namma Bengaluru

Congrats Anuradha on winning the contest - we've already dispatched a mail to you. The details on when the printer will reach you will be shared separately in a few moments.

Oh boy! that was pretty exciting. Thanks to the HP IPG team (especially Seema) and also folks from Burson-Marsteller (especially Soumya) for making this happen. Thanks again folks!!

Special thanks to all the participants and also for all those of you who helped spread the word about the contest.

Please await for a complete review from me on the HP PhotoSmart Premium 309G in a few days.

Cheers!!

"Le Kid" , single extrait de l'album "Pas Dormir" produit par les frères Mael (Sparks) va remporter un succès relatif . Les fans des deux premiers albums sont eux , dubitatifs !
Pas d'inédits sur ce simple mais en face b "Je ne t'oublierai jamais" dédiée comme on l'a déjà dit à Gene Vincent, Vince Taylor et Edith Piaf (trois destins brisés ...) , dans une version écourtée et différente de celle du lp. Pochette de J. B. Mondino comme souvent !

"Le Kid" is the only single from "Pas Dormir" , the third Bijou album recorded in 1979. Both titles are on the lp but on the b side you can find a different & shorter version of "Je ne t'oublierai jamais" . This 7" like the album was produced by Ron & Russell Mael from the Sparks.

Poe the Clydesdale World's tallest Horse

It’s lucky he’s such a good-natured beast. Because if this horse turned grumpy, there’s no way a petite woman armed with a rope could hold him back. Standing 20.2 hands - that’s 6ft 10in - at the shoulder and weighing 200 stone, Poe is the tallest horse in the world, according to owner Shereen Thompson.

Asin Thottumkal

Asin Thottumkal was born into a Catholic family in Kochi, Kerala. Her father, Joseph Thottumkal originally from Thodupuzha, managed several businesses and was considered a prominent entrepreneur before he stopped managing his businesses and decided to manage his daughter's acting career instead.

Furthermore Asin's father accompanies her to all her foreign shoots. Her mother, Seline Thottumkal, remains a surgeon despite moving settlements from Cochin to Chennai to Mumbai to live with her daughter. Asin has quoted that her name "means pure and without blemish". She claims that "the 'A' in her name is from Sanskrit meaning "without", and ‘Sin’ from English".

Asin Thottumkal, born on October 26, 1985 an Indian film actress from the state of Kerela. Making her acting debut in Sathyan Anthikkad's Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001), Asin had her first commercial success with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi in 2003, and won a Filmfare Award for the Best Telugu Actress for the film.

After a number of films, she received her second South Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in her second Tamil film, Ghajini (2005). She played the lead female roles in hits, the thriller Ghajini (2005) and the action comedy Varalaru (2006). More recently, Asin made her début in Bollywood, with Ghajini, the remake of its Tamil namesake, subsequently winning the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award Award.

She looks fresh and photogenic and acts her part brilliantly, giving Asin's performance a positive outlook. Asin is committed to Vipul Shah's London Dreams alongside Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, in which she plays a member of a five-troupe band. The film got released on October 30, 2009. She recently judged the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2009 and Fashion Big Bazaar's India Ka Fashion Star 2009 events.

The Aamir Khan- Asin action romantic musical Ghajini has turned out to be the biggest ever-Hindi blockbuster in Kerala. Aamir is going all out to promote and recommend Asin. She has replaced Gul Panag in the Tata Sky ads and Aamir, who is brand ambassador for Titan's watch line has also helped her bag an endorsement deal with Tanishq which is Titan's jewellery brand. He has recommended her for a Disney film as well. She is definitely a part of his camp now. Asin is very good in Hindi and does not need another person to dub for her is also seen as one of her advantages.

With her attractive looks and considerable histrionic skills, she could be the next southern siren to conquer Bollywood after Vyjayantimala(Tamil), Hema Malini (Tamil), Rekha (Tamil), Jayaprada (Telugu) and Sridevi (Tamil).
